Shibori Dye: Pillow Covers

Learn to use simple painting and dye techniques to create beautiful throw pillow covers for the home.  Participants will have the opportunity to dye two pre-made cotton throw pillow covers and several samples in this workshop.  We will use shibori folding and resist techniques to create beautiful abstract designs on cotton.  All materials and supplies will be provided.  Participants are asked to bring rubber kitchen gloves (or disposable gloves), an iron, and a blow dryer if they have these items.  Additional pillow covers will be available for a nominal fee, if time allows.

Creative Arts Center Weaving Classes

Come to the Creative Arts Center of Dallas and learn to weave!

Location: Creative Arts Center, Dallas

Go far beyond the potholder phase! In this class you will use rigid heddle looms to create woven cloth. You will learn to weave using plain weave on a two harness rigid heddle loom. You will be introduced to weaving terminology, equipment, and history while getting step by step guidance to plan and execute your first weaving project. Each student will complete a sample placemat and then choose either two placemats or one scarf to weave. Classes meet each Wed from 6:30-9:30 for four weeks.

Indigo Dye! A New Twist on an Old Method

Learn to use Indigo dye to create your very own wearable art!  Indigo Dye is one of the oldest types of dye, used all over the world.  In this workshop we will use a new product--- synthetic indigo, to achieve the same look as naturally sourced indigo.   Each participant will go home with two silk scarves and several samples.  The indigo process is unique!   All materials and supplies will be provided.  Participants are asked to bring rubber kitchen gloves (or disposable gloves), an iron, and a blow dryer if they have these items.   You may also bring two additional pieces of a natural (non-animal) fiber from home to dye (cotton/silk/linen).

This three day workshop will take you through the entire process of learning to weave: measuring, warping your loom, weaving several basic twill structures, and more. You will go home with a sampler of your work (or, if you are ambitious, a woven scarf) and all the information you need to keep weaving. Suitable for beginners or others who have not touched a loom in a while!

Color and Weave on the Rigid Heddle Loom

Advance your rigid heddle weaving to the next level! This series of five classes meets on Thursday evenings. Note we are skipping May 23 and 30. You will learn how to combine colors to make several different designs, including houndstooth, on the RH loom.

One class will be devoted entirely to project planning: how to choose yarns (and colors), determine sett, sample, and calculate needed yardage for your project.
